Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, is one of the most important traditional festivals in China. It is usually held in the first month of the lunar calendar and marks the beginning of the new year. Celebrations of the Spring Festival include pasting spring couplets, paper cutting, hanging lanterns, setting off fireworks, and dragon and lion dances.
The festival begins on the first day of the traditional Chinese calendar and ends with the Lantern Festival which falls on the 15th day. The day when Chinese families gather for their annual reunion dinner is known asChuxi or Chinese New Year's Eve.
